Welcome To
Joy’s Community Day
and Boarding Primary School

Our Story: From 69 to 275+ Students and Counting

Founded in 1997 by Maureen Alice Torr, under Joy’s Center Cooperation. Joy’s Community Day and Boarding Primary School began with a bold mission: to bring hope, education, and care to orphaned and vulnerable children in Southwestern Uganda. Nestled in the heart of Buremba, Kazo-Kiruhura District, our journey began with just 69 orphaned children.

Today, we are proud to serve over 380 students, with 65 children still in need of sponsorship. What started as a humble effort has become a life-changing refuge for hundreds of children who now have access to quality education, safe accommodation, nutritious meals, healthcare, and mentorship.

At Joy’s Community School, education isn’t limited to books and classrooms. We believe in nurturing the whole child. Our programs are built on strong core values that shape every interaction and lesson:

Respect . Love . Appreciation . Endurance . Perseverance . Determination

These values guide our students beyond academic success—empowering them with the emotional, social, and life skills they need to thrive in a challenging world.

Our Mission

To offer inclusive, affordable, and quality education from Kindergarten to Grade 7 through both day and boarding, so every child, whether sponsored or fee-paying, can learn in a safe, nurturing, faith-based environment.

Our Vision

To be a vibrant community school where every child thrives grounded in strong academics, life skills, and values that shape them into confident leaders and responsible citizens.

Our Motto

Education is Power.

What We Teach

Our curriculum follows the Ugandan Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) standards and focuses on both academics and character-building.

Subjects include:

  • English

  • Mathematics

  • Social Studies

  • Science

  • Religious & Moral Education

  • Computer Skills
  • Agriculture in Classroom

We believe in learning that shapes both the mind and heart—preparing children for exams and for life.

Agriculture in Class

At Joy’s Community School, agriculture is more than a subject — it’s a way of life. Our students learn practical farming skills right in the heart of Uganda’s rich landscape. Through hands-on lessons, they explore crop growth, sustainability, and food security—connecting classroom knowledge with real-world experience.

This outdoor session brings theory to life, preparing students to be self-reliant and environmentally aware.

Skilling & Life Lessons

At Joy’s Community School, we go beyond academics to nurture students into confident, responsible, and self-reliant individuals. Our life skills program fosters independence, leadership, and resilience through practical, hands-on learning.

We focus on:

  • Computer & ICT – Digital literacy for today’s world

  • Financial Literacy – Budgeting, saving, and entrepreneurship

  • Leadership & Teamwork – Taking initiative and working together

  • Conflict Resolution – Solving problems with empathy and wisdom

  • Self-Discipline – Building habits of responsibility and focus

  • Personal Hygiene & Health – Cleanliness, nutrition, and self-care

A Message from the Acting Head Teacher

Welcome to Joy’s Community Primary School. My name is Twinokusasira Ivan, and I’m honored to serve as the Acting Head Teacher of this growing, hopeful school. It is inspiring to see our learners’ resilience and our staff’s dedication, despite many challenges. We thank God daily for His protection and provision.
This term has brought progress. Thanks especially to our generous sponsors, like Madam Alice, we provide meals to all our learners every day. We grow our own maize, serving porridge in the morning, lunch, and supper.
Our children’s health is improving, reflected in their smiles and school performance. We are excited about plans for a health facility near the school. Currently, medical care is hard to access and costly, especially in emergencies. A nearby clinic would be a blessing to both our school and community.
Of course, challenges remain. Many learners can’t afford school uniforms, classrooms lack sufficient lighting, and the school compound is unfenced, raising safety concerns. Yet, we remain hopeful. With continued support and more kind hearts joining us, we can do so much more.
We invite you to be part of this journey by sponsoring a child, donating, volunteering, or spreading the word about Joy’s.
Thank you for visiting our website and learning about us. May God richly bless you.
